Experienced Mentor
A good motorcycle tutor or mentor is not just someone who has been riding for a long time; they are someone who has been trained and evaluated by recognised organisations such as the DVSA, BMF, IAM RoadSmart, RoSPA and the DIA etc, and takes their role seriously in order to be really effective in mentoring others.
I can highly recommend Andy as a Motorcycle Mentor. After 46 years of riding I had a fear of not being able to ‘train out’ bad habits, but his encouraging style, and passion for biking to be safe and enjoyable are fantastic.
Even discovering new rides and cafes! Outside of the training, I feel like I’ve gained another ‘biking buddy’ who no doubt will be forever ‘watching’ to see if I deviate from the skills I’m picking up on every ride.

ABOUT MOTORCYCLE MENTOR
Motorcycle Mentor was founded by Andy Davies, FMIAM (widely known as “Twiggy”), a highly experienced DVSA-approved CBT and DAS Motorcycle Instructor including having completed training as an accredited National Observer with IAM RoadSmart . IAM RoadSmart is just one of a group of nationally recognised Advanced Training Bodies, including BMF Blue Riband and RoSPA etc, whose training is independently quality-assured by the DVSA.
Andy is a registered and accredited member of the Driving Instructors Association (DIA)—the UK’s largest professional body for driver and rider trainers—and a member of the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF). With a background as a former military and civilian blue-light vehicle operator, Andy brings operational experience to his role as a motorcycle instructor, mentor, and advanced rider.

His long-standing passion for motorcycling has led to extensive involvement within the wider motorcycle community. This includes serving as a Regional County Representative for the Royal British Legion Riders Branch, as well as being an active member of the RAF Police Bikers Riders Group.
Andy is an advanced rider who has also completed the Police Foundation “Motorcycle Roadcraft” course, reinforcing his commitment to the highest standards of roadcraft, safety, and rider development. He is a dedicated member of the Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Blood Bikes, providing a critical emergency transport service to the NHS 365 days a year, and also serves as both a rider and driver with local Emergency Community Response Volunteers. To ensure his skills remain at the highest professional level, Andy is required to retake an Advanced Motorcycle Test every three years.
A bespoke mentor, as well as being a member of the BMF and DIA, other recognition of his expertise and commitment to riding excellence is that Andy also holds Fellow status with IAM RoadSmart providing enhanced recognition and is listed on the prestigious IAM F1RST Register, consistently achieving the highest possible marks in the Advanced Motorcycle Test.
Recognised Advanced Rider qualifications are supported by 'BikeSafe', a Police led motorcycle safety initiative and the 'Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes' as a quality assured advanced qualification for those who may wish to become a recognised Emergency Blood Bike Volunteer or as a rider with the National Escort Group
